Margaret (Maggie) Cleary is a Chicago-based, multi-disciplinary artist. Her projects range from multimedia installations and vocal and sound performances to garment and bag production. She does it all! Embedded in her work is an interest in history (personal and beyond) creating a compression of time. This can reference recorded history, memory, and intuition. Her current obsessions are learning how to be a seamstress, the history of fiber, and writing a bedroom-pop album.

I find myself unable to see plainly with the eyes of the present. I choose, instead, to look through time. To commune with a ghost. To daydream of an imagined past. To stumble into the coincidental future. To exercise memory through space and material, set and sound, object and synchronicity. To become a conduit for something beyond my body, something out of reach. I seek to feel a shred of multiplicity, to walk through the field of dreams. I am playing. I am joking. I have never been more serious in my entire life. I am in love, and I won’t stop until I understand.
